Conventional Fishing Reels or Trolling Reels
The conventional reels (or trolling reels) are multiplier reels. They are designed similar to the bait casting reel. These are open frame reels housing a horizontal spool.
The term conventional type refers to reels slighter larger than a bait casting reel, and range all the way up to super sized reels used for the largest fresh and saltwater game fishes. This class of reels is used in trolling for medium and heavy applications.
Some of these come in high speed, low speed, or two speeds. Low speed can be a 1:1 spool to handle ration. A high speed can be a 5:1 ration, or 7:1 for ultra high speed. The two speed would have a high gear and low gear – high for quick retrievals, and low speed for heavy duty grinding up big and heavy fish.
